The fall calendar on the West Palm Beach waterfront fills three Saturdays in a row starting Oct. 24, plus one Friday. Each of those nights happens at the downtown end of South Flagler Drive, and each one comes with a city order closing the Drive between Banyan Boulevard and either Lakeview Avenue or Fern Street. For anyone driving in from elsewhere, that means detours and parking hunts. From El Cid, the same stretch of water is the route north, and the closures land past the neighborhood's end of it.
So this season, the waterfront route from El Cid is how you get to these nights. How easy that walk is depends on two construction sites between the neighborhood and Meyer Amphitheatre.
Four Closures on One Calendar
The City of West Palm Beach's Oct. 14 road and dock report lists every event closure through early November. Here are the ones that involve Flagler Drive or El Cid's own streets:
| Date | Event | What closes | Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sat., Oct. 24 | Light the Night | South Flagler Drive, Banyan Blvd. to Lakeview Ave. | 6 to 9 p.m. |
| Fri., Oct. 30 to Sat., Oct. 31 | LagoonFest | South Flagler Drive, Banyan Blvd. to Fern St. | 1 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday |
| Sat., Oct. 31 | El Cid Halloween | Valencia Road, South Olive Ave. to South Flagler Drive | 4 to 10 p.m. |
| Fri., Nov. 6 to Sat., Nov. 7 | Eudēmonia at Night | South Flagler Drive, Banyan Blvd. to Lakeview Ave. | 6 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday |
Two of the closures run overnight. If you usually drive Flagler into downtown on Friday afternoons, the LagoonFest closure starts at 1 p.m. on Oct. 30. The Eudēmonia closure covers all of Saturday, Nov. 7, up to 10 p.m.
Oct. 24 Starts Early
Oct. 24 actually uses the waterfront twice. GreenMarket closes Flagler Drive between Banyan Boulevard and Datura Street from 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. that morning, and the same report lists the Light the Night closure that evening.
Light the Night is Blood Cancer United's community fundraising walk honoring people affected by blood cancer. Registration is free, and fundraising is encouraged. The organizer's event page puts the Palm Beach and Treasure Coast walk at Meyer Amphitheatre, and survivors receive a white lantern and a survivor shirt. Sunny 107.9's event listing gives a 5 p.m. start, while the city's road closure begins at 6 p.m. If you're walking up to register, the earlier time is the one to plan for.
Oct. 31 Stacks Three Things Into One Day
Halloween this year falls on a Saturday, and the city's calendar fills nearly the whole day. In order:
- 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the 13th Annual LagoonFest. It's a free, family-friendly event with interactive wildlife exhibits about the Lake Worth Lagoon. It runs along Flagler Drive from North Clematis south to Fern Street and the city docks, centered on Waterfront Commons at 100 N. Clematis St. Details are on the city's LagoonFest page.
- The same day, the Norton Museum of Art opens two exhibitions. Blazing Light: Photographs by Mimi Plumb and Gertrude Abercrombie: The Whole World Is a Mystery both run Oct. 31 through March 14, 2027. The Norton calls Blazing Light Plumb's first museum exhibition, gathering three bodies of work on the anxieties of contemporary American culture. The Abercrombie show is billed as the first nationally touring retrospective of her art.
- 4 to 10 p.m., Valencia Road closes between South Olive Avenue and South Flagler Drive for El Cid Halloween.
The LagoonFest closure on South Flagler Drive lifts at 6 p.m., two hours after Valencia Road closes. For those two hours, both ends of the Drive's El Cid–to–downtown run are closed at once. The city also lists a separate East Lakewood Halloween closure that night on Murray Road and East Lakewood Road between South Olive Avenue and South Flagler Drive, from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Anyone counting on Olive or Flagler that evening will find several cross streets closed, not one.
Nov. 6 Puts the Norton and the Amphitheatre on the Same Night
The first Friday in November puts two different evenings close together.
Eudēmonia at Night is a two-night, public, ticketed concert series from Eudēmonia Summit and Related Ross at Meyer Amphitheatre, 104 Datura St., next to the Intracoastal, as On the Front Lines reported. According to the official run page, Friday opens with a waterfront 5K run and walk, followed by Mango & Ginger at 7:30 p.m. and SOFI TUKKER at 8:30 p.m. General admission is $99 and VIP is $179. On Saturday, Wilderado plays at 7 p.m. and The Head and the Heart at 8:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets start at $69.
Back near El Cid that same Friday, the Norton's Art After Dark runs from 5 to 10 p.m. under the billing "Jazz Friday \ Subtropic Film Festival," with docent tours, drop-in art workshops and live performances. Admission is $10 for adults and seniors, $5 for students, and free for members. That's a tenth of the Friday concert's general admission price, at the museum closest to home, while the waterfront downtown is closed for a ticketed show.
The Two Construction Zones You'll Pass on the Way
The event closures are all downtown. Everything between El Cid and downtown comes from two construction projects that run past the November events.
South Flagler House, 1355 S. Flagler Drive. Related Ross describes the project as two towers with 105 residences. The city's report lists these closures through December 2026:
- Currie Crescent closed east of South Olive Avenue
- The southbound lane of South Flagler Drive closed along the project's frontage
- The sidewalk along the project's frontage closed
The southbound closure matters most on the way home. After a night at Meyer Amphitheatre, driving back to El Cid on Flagler means passing a stretch at 1355 where the southbound lane is closed. Walking back means a sidewalk closure in the same spot.
South Dixie Highway, Belvedere Road to south of Okeechobee Boulevard. This Florida Department of Transportation project covers 1.044 miles and started this spring. FDOT's District Four traffic report for Oct. 16 to 23 gives an estimated completion of early 2027. The city lists a northbound outside-lane closure between Barcelona Road and Acacia Road through fall 2026.
The Dixie project matters for more than the lane closure. FDOT's scope adds ADA curb ramps and sidewalk work, pedestrian-signal upgrades, LED lighting, and a new signalized mid-block crosswalk north of Vallette Way. Once it's finished, the Dixie side of the neighborhood will be easier to cross on foot. Until early 2027, it's a work zone.
Closer in, the city is lining sanitary sewers through December with intermittent lane closures on nearby streets, including Summa Street and Russlyn Drive and Rilyn Drive between South Flagler Drive and South Dixie Highway. The city says two-way traffic will be maintained.
What's Open at the Downtown End
If you're walking or biking north for any of these nights, a few downtown openings are worth a stop:
- The Daily Focaccia, an Italian focacceria at 410 Evernia St., Suite 118, opened Oct. 5. Its Chamber ribbon-cutting listing notes street parking on Evernia or Dixie.
- 212 Bagel Co. was slated to open in November in the 500 block of Clematis Street, according to the Palm Beach Post.
The season keeps going after the amphitheatre events end. On Dec. 5, the Norton opens Prix Pictet Storm, which brings together 12 international photographers working on environmental and social issues. It runs through April 18, 2027. The South Flagler House closures are listed as ending that same month.
